Key Stage 2 - Games Fair

As part of the KS2 "Young Enterprise" Project the students designed and made fairground games.  Adverts were made, market research was completed and costing was done.  Once the stalls were set up KS1 were invited to spend their (plastic) money on the games.  What fun!  The winner at the end was the team who made the most profit.

Cake Stall...Mmmmmm

Mrs Seeney and her team of volunteer bakers held a cake stall last week, with the proceeds going towards new board games for the children.  The children really enjoyed their yummy cakes.

The Children of Key Stage 2 held their assembly in which they portrayed life in WW2.

• Key Stage 2 Children learnt about Children at war

  Thousands of children left home for the first time as evacuees. School lessons and exams went on more or less as usual, though children also learned 'air raid drill' and how to put on a gas mask. At night, many children slept in air raid shelters.  There were fewer toys for Christmas or birthdays, and not many sweets either. Many seaside beaches were closed. However, children found new playgrounds on 'bombsites' - waste ground where buildings had been flattened by bombs.

• The Children learnt how the war changed things.

  Many families were split up. Fathers, uncles and brothers left home to join the Forces (army, navy or air force). People travelled more, to do war work and to fight overseas. Mothers and older sisters went to work in factories.  There was rationing of food, clothes and other goods. Air raids made it hard to get a good night's sleep. Bomb damage often meant no gas or electricity. Train and bus journeys took longer. Going to school or work often meant walking over bricks and broken glass in the streets. At night, theblackout made towns and cities dark.

Malawi Swim Challenge

We would like to say a big THANK YOU to all of you who participated and supported the Swim Challenge in aid of Malawi Flood Relief.  It was a brilliant day and it was absolutely fantastic to see the children and parents completing their challenges!  We raised a total amount of SR9,263.00 which is an incredible amount!  This amount equates to 1 million Malawian Kwacha!  It will go a very long way in helping those affected by the devastating floods earlier this year.

Once again, thank you very much for supporting this event.  Mr & Mrs Carrington will be informing you of how the funds were used at the start of the new academic year.

Changes Within Living Memory

In Year 2/3 we have been learning all about ‘Changes Within Living Memory’ in our topic. We have investigated how things like fashion, music, transport, education and technology have changed since the 1940’s. We linked our learning to include Maths, English, History, Art, Computing, Music and Design & Technology.  We each chose something from the past that we could use as a stimulus to design and make a model. Ashlyn chose to make a Rubik’s cube from 1980, Jia chose an Apple Ipad from 2010, Patrick chose a Tesla electric car from 2001 and William chose a PlayStation II from 1999. We had great fun designing and making our models!

We can’t include everything from each decade, so can you please help us? Our display is in the main entrance to the school. Please write or draw any special events, people, inventions or memories on the photo frames for each decade.
